Elektroakustik (1)
Beschreibung
"This variation of the world construction series is based on – originally unintentional and technically poor – stereophonic audio recordings of a quiet street corner in Vienna’s 3rd district. The original duration of this sound material is slightly less than two minutes.
Corner passing takes on the form of an electroacoustic composition which develops the perceived sonic atmosphere of the original recordings, interpreting what can be heard, be it concrete events like vehicles passing, human and animal utterings, as well as various forms of mostly unidentifiable noise. The result is partly naturalistic, and partly abstracted from the original sounds, opening up a range of sonic spaces derived from the recordings.
The composition has a variable length and can be presented in the form of a concert performance or as a sound installation. Its acoustic presentation uses two layers: Firstly, a fixed set of loudspeakers radiating the athmospheric fundament, and secondly, a set of small loudspeakers functioning as dedicated “solo voices”, fixed or mobile, within the audience, or even hand-held by audience members. Thus, the perspective of a listener relative to these sound sources can be changing, enabling an active role of taking part in the composition.
The inclusion of the audience into the composition refers to soundscape theory, which suggests that each participant of the sounding world is at the same time a contributor, taking on the role of a composer."
